About the Author
Matt Robinson is a Glasnevin native whose roots in the community go back to his earliest years, Brought up in the heart of Glasnevin and later raising his own family there he has maintained a strong, lasting connection to the area, having spent a lifetime observing the ways it has grown and changed.
In 2013, Matt was co-opted onto the newly launched Glasnevin Heritage Facebook page by a fellow retiree and local resident Liam Littlewood. Both had attended the former Model school on Church Avenue and went on to De La Salle's Beneavin College.
What began as a small, community-focused project has since developed into a platform that is followed on all five continents. Its success is built on the contributions of past and present residents who share photographs, stories, press cuttings, and memories - many of which informed and supported Matt's research.
This book is the result of years of detailed investigation. Matt spoke with numerous people, particularly older residents whose recollections provided valuable insight into the area's past. His work brought him through archives, libraries, old newspapers, and private collections in search of rare images and long-forgotten material. Throughout the compilation of the book he received support from many, including page follower and author Peter Clarke, whose early idea helped spark the project. Peter's guidance and publishing experience were especially helpful in shaping the book from its outset.
Driven by a love for storytelling and a deep respect for the community Matt Robinson brings Glasnevin's history vividly to life - ensuring its people, places, and moments endure for generations to come.
Glasnevin Heritage's Facebook Page
Facebook's Glasnevin Heritage was launched in 2013 by the two lads that grew up in the area, migrated to other suburbs, and in time came back. Glasnevin is that kind of place. Magnetic. And going by our social media followers those that lived here have a sense of that too as our Facebook following continues to grow.
Approaching our 13th year online it goes without saying that we wouldn't have been as successful as we are without the participation of many of our page followers. Special thanks goes out to all those who have and continue to contribute old and recent photographs, press cuttings and stories of old. Special thanks too to page follower Peter Clarke who initiated the project that led to the book being written. He was there all along, offering guidance, advice and encouragement. An accomplished author in his own right his knowledge of the publishing world was invaluable.
On our Facebook page we publish old and new photos, videos, and stories of the people, places and events in Glasnevin and it's environs together with occasional national and international content which we feel would be of interest to readers.
This is a short video containing images from our FB page. A nostalgic trip through old Glasnevin in Dublin, Some of the images are our own, some have been shared with us, while others have been found on the web. View in full screen.
